He is 111. His spirit is in all of his descendants, as his eggnog shall be in the coming weeks.

Sean,

The Purple Line debate here isn't nearly as acrimonious as the one in Bethesda/Silver Spring, but it's pretty bad. Think university administrators on one side, everyone else on the other.

First, Mote and co. said the line going down Campus Drive would mess up the "M." Then, the MTA people said it could go around the M and preserve it. Then admins said it would hit pedestrians. The MTA pointed out that the trains could stop easily and that plenty of people crossed Campus Drive every day without getting hit. Then, they said it would mess up the aesthetics of the campus. The MTA said they would put a lot of money into making Campus Drive into a big, pretty pedestrian walkway with brick, trees, shrubs, etc.

The argument that it could screw up their sensitive research is the only one that's held up. It's up to the state to decide, but I think the university will probably end up winning in the end (just based on gut feeling).

Solid point, about the need for more editors keeping eyes on blogs. Unfortunately, economic pressure has vastly reduced the number of copy editors at mainstream outlets, and most indy outlets simply don't have them -- or enough of them.

"After all, it is a news story." Very nice. The same standards that apply in print apply online. At least they should.

Oh, and nice Purple Line post. I live in downtown silver spring two blocks from where the line will come through, so I'm obsessed with it. I've been waiting for it for ever. Just build it already!

There's a huge debate in SS about which neighborhoods the line should cut through. I had no idea there was a similar debate in CP, though it makes sense.

Hey girl-

I heard a rumor that the original Blue Ranger (from Power Rangers) was arrested for murder. His real name is David Yost, I believe. I tried looking it up, but I could only find stuff on blogs so I dont know if it's true or not. I thought you'd be interested.
