I wanted to reblog this post by a young journalist on how to put the new media craze in perspective, and realize that:

I’ve been hearing rumors of layoffs and large paycuts at UMD — a tenured professor in the Art History department got a 28 percent paycut, and I’ll bet she wasn’t the only one. Academic advisers have been laid off from the Computer Science department. A friend’s parent in the fundraising department was laid off.
